DDPP VANCOUVER

Dance Dance Party Party™ in Vancouver, Canada

FAQs

1. I don’t get it… what do you do?

2. What should I wear? What should I bring?

Wear whatever you want! We suggest comfortable workout clothes because you will SWEAT. We are in a dance studio, so non-scuffing shoes, socks or bare feet are preferred. We recommend you bring WATER and maybe a small towel if you tend to sweat a lot. There is a water fountain at the community centre to fill up your water bottle or grab a quick drink.

3. What if I can’t dance?

Don’t worry, neither can we! One of the cornerstone rules of DDPP is NO JUDGMENT – both of yourself and others. This is about FUN, so try out your funkiest moves, pretend you’re in your own music video, or just sway in the corner… whatever works for you! We also keep the lights down, so that will hopefully make you feel less shy or “on display.”

4. What music to do you listen to?

We used to post playlists on the blog (pre-pandemic), and you can find those posts in the blog archives.

5. Who runs DDPP Vancouver?

Darlene Araujo (aka DJ Darfunkel) was Den Mama from June 2014 to April 2019.

Sara Bynoe (aka DJ Groove Wizards) formed DDPP Vancouver in 2008 and was Den Mama until May 2014. Find her @ SaraBynoe.com.

6. Can I DJ?

Yes you can! And just to be clear, by “DJ” we mean putting together a kick-ass mix on Spotify, so actual DJ skills are not required. All we ask is that you attend at least one session first, so you can see how things work first. Check out our Be the DJ page for more info!

  1. Hi, I love coming to DDPP! I am wondering if you could edit your website and Facebook group to say that the class is for self-identified women. When this is not specified, it makes me feel uncomfortable about inviting my friends who are trans because they might not feel sure that they would be welcome. Heck, if makes me feel uncomfortable about going to DDPP myself. You have done an awesome job of creating a space that is comfy and accepting for many of us! This step would make DDPP safer and more joyful for more ladies.

    • Hi Alana! Thanks for communicating with us by email, as I only saw this comment notification now somehow! Glad these updates were made to our website and FB group earlier this year 🙂

  2. How can I get DDPP in the burbs where I live? Langley/Walnut Grove area has a ton of women who are just dying to escape soccer practice and their homes.
